Jazz at Mountain Temple in Hokuto 10th Anniversary Event

The 10th Jazz Concert at Mountain Temple in Hokuto was held at the Nagasaka Community Station Hall on May 21, 2023. The first part was performed by the quartet featuring Maiko (violin), Shikou Ito (Piano), Benisuke Sakai (bass) and Yoichi Okabe (percussion). In the second part, a vocalist Karen Aoki joined the quartet. Several jazz standards were played and enjoyed by the audience.

Rice Planting

The rice (Oryza sativa) planting season started last month. Here in a cooler region of Nagano prefecture, the village of Hara, some farmers are still busy transplanting the rice seedlings from the seed beds to the paddy fields.

One day in Kamata, Keikyu Kamata Station

Keikyu Kamata Station’s name has been changed to “Keikyu Kaama-tatatata! Station,” inspired by the high-pitched battle cry shouted by Kenshiro (Provided by Keikyu Corp.)  In a novel collaboration with “Fist of the North Star,” Keikyu Corporation has renamed one of its stations after the popular action manga series.  The project, part of a joint celebration to mark the 35th anniversary of the cartoon and 120th anniversary of the railway operator, runs until Sept. 17.
